Cafe Clover in the West Village
The talented team behind NYC hits like The Skylark, Jimmy at the James, and Bar Nana took the uniquely shaped, light-filled space at 10 Downing and reinvigorated this corner of the West Village with their health-focused concept, Cafe Clover. Featuring vegetable focused, seasonal fare by Chef David Standridge and interiors by S.R. Gambrel, Cafe Clover has become a fashionable neighborhood joint and a darling of celebrities and publications like Vogue and EyeSwoon.
To create the casual, effortless chic vibe of Cafe Clover's brand, heavy patterns and ornamental elements were eschewed in favor of simplicity and elegance. 10 Downing's unique triangle shaped layout required the restaurant team to move their main entrance off the main drag to a smaller side street that sees less foot traffic. To solve the visibility issue, I designed a statement entrance that incorporated the existing sliding door and lighting elements by Schoolhouse Electric.
